Mr. Howard,

I was given your email address by a gentleman at your Factory so that I could compliment and comment on the Whites MXT.  Most specifically, the training I received in Rye Patch, Nevada this past weekend from a Whites distributor in Idaho named Gerry McMullen this weekend.

Prior to buying my first detector I did a great deal of research on what was available and what my needs were. Through my research, I kept seeing Gerry's name mentioned, so I contacted him.  Gerry and I talked for a good while and he listened to my needs and expectations and together, we determined that the White's MXT was the right detector for me.  I purchased the MXT and went to the training session that Gerry offered in Rye Patch, Nevada.  After the training, I knew I had made the right decision.
Let me start off by saying that I am really enjoying the MXT.  This is my first detector and it was an opportunity of a lifetime to spend 3 days out in the desert learning about VLF and PI machines, prospecting, hearing stories and meeting some great people that share the same interests that I do and best of all doing nothing but 3 full days of prospecting. The teamwork and camaraderie that I experienced at the training site was unimaginable; i.e., when someone got an interesting target and we all stood by, eager to watch what they had discovered.. Our trainer, Gerry would seize this moment and give each of us the opportunity to try to detect it, then a couple of inches of dirt would be removed and we would each try again, soon we got a feel for the sound changes as we got closer to the target which in the end turned out to be a 2 gram nugget. Wow, that was exciting!  A few other nuggets were found over the weekend, as well.

Mr. Howard, I have to say that this was the best money I have spent on my hobby thus far and will certainly suggest the White's MXT and Gerry McMullen to everyone that has an interest in purchasing this type of equipment for their prospecting needs.. Gerry represented your product well and I look forward to prospecting with him again in the near future.

With regard to the manual for the MXT, I must point out a learning opportunity and a potential need for clarification in the explanation of the Trac Toggle Switch within the manual.  As this is my first detector, I made sure to read and reread the manual and one thing that is mentioned but not stressed enough, in my opinion, is the Trac toggle switch. Let me explain:  Before training I would leave the switch in the tracking mode (as suggested in the manual), I would find a small target and bear in mind, being new to everything, would go over the target several times to pinpoint and identify the target before digging.  The target would then disappear!  Being new to this equipment I did not realize that I was tracking it out. This was very frustrating and made my first few hunts very confusing. While in the training, Gerry taught me to ground balance then switch to lock. Every once in awhile check the balance again and lock This solved almost all my problems and made me more confident. Don't get me wrong, I see the need for the "Ground" position, but for beginners it should be stressed to lock after ground balancing. Keep in mind that most of us beginners will want to hear the sounds over and over before we dig.  Just food for thought . . .

I have a lot to learn about detecting and am happy to let you know that you have a very satisfied customer.  It was again well worth the money and I feel that it is a quality product.  You'll be happy to know that I found your stated battery life to be quite impressive.  I spent over 40 hours (with headphones) and still have 10 volts left. Not bad at all. One other feature that I am impressed with is that this model has 2 different sounds in the Relic hunting mode. This has been very helpful.  As a new prospector, I am sure that I will find out many other undiscovered things about this detector in the future but wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed taking it out on it's maiden voyage. The White's MXT is not a detector that will sit in my closet and collect dust!

Thanks again for a great quality product and please thank Gerry McMullen for giving a group of novice prospectors the experience of a lifetime.

Keep up the good work!  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Regards,

Kevin
